I have also received an E-mail from JET with my placement! I am going to be sent to Fuefuki-shi (Fuefuki-city) in Yamanashi-ken (Yamanashi Prefecture)! I have found a YouTube video of the person who is living there now, so you can click the link below to view it! I may or may not be living in the same apartment as him, but maybe it'll give you an idea of the area. It is only about 2 hours from Tokyo by train, so if anyone came to visit me it wouldn't be too far to visit the city! Even if I wanted to see my old family in Saitama, it would be doable. Expensive, but doable.
Below is the YouTube video:
Below is the map of the area on Google Maps...
Also, I have received a few booklets from JET in the mail. One is for people who are just learning Japanese, one is about health insurance, and one includes the HOW TO's and WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT JAPAN handbook. I'll be reading a little bit at a time, and going through the Japanese book to see how much of it I already know. I have come across a few vocabulary words I don't know, so it'll at least be useful for that.
I do not yet know anything about what age group I'll be teaching, what I'll need to buy for the apartment, or anything else about who I'll be working with. Some time next month my predecessor and/or supervisor is supposed to be calling me to give me more information about specifics. One of my friends hasn't heard about her placement yet, so I got lucky to find out in the first round.
If you have any questions I'll do my best to answer them, but this is about all I know for now. (I don't know if I'll have to drive, if anyone else will be living in the area, how many schools I'll be working at, etc.)
Love you! Hopefully I can update you again soon.
Lana
Looks like you'll be in a beautiful setting, not too far away from the mountains. Kofu is famous for its clean water and high mountains. You'll be darn close to the Japan Alps!
